With the first product, the Tremipen®, Tremitas developed a pen-shaped mobile measurement device for tremor quantification. The Tremipen® measures force and frequency of the shaking hands of Parkinson’s and Essential Tremor patients.
The medical technologist and co-founder of Tremitas, Tibor Zajki-Zechmeister, is working on the idea of the Tremipen® since 2011, the time he made it topic of his bachelor thesis in his studies of medical technology at the FH Kärnten in Klagenfurt. After his graduation he worked on the business idea with the regional incubator build!. Tremitas was founded in 2015.
In 2016 a clinical trial with the Tremipen® was performed at the Medical University of Graz; there it was proven that the Tremipen® is suitable for tremor quantification. This is possible due to the internal acceleration sensor, like it is used in other clinical devices. Measurements with that clinical device, the EMG-Accelerometer, often take over half an hour of time and are only possible with trained personnel in clinics or doctor’s offices.
The Tremipen® can be used by patients themselves and is as easy to use as a clinical thermometer
To perform a measurement, patients hold the Tremipen® in their hand with a loose grip, after pushing the button the measurement process starts. The measurement results are determined in 30 seconds and shown on the integrated display.
